What are High School Programs?

High school programs include those that allow high school students to take high school courses concurrent with college level courses.  Specific courses have been identified as having both the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) and are thereby aligned and able to be taught by the same qualified instructor that meets the requirements for both the high school and the college course.

In order to participate, high school students from public, charter, private and those being home schooled, must meet the minimum requirements for each course. This may entail meeting assessment scores on the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSI), ACT or on End of Course Exams from English II or Algebra I. For more details course requirements, please contact your respective College High School Programs Contact listed on the right of this page.

High School Programs allow students to advance their post-secondary journey, saving them time and money by taking college-level courses while in high school.

Which High School Program:

Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH)

Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools (P-TECH) are open-enrollment high schools that offer students the opportunity to earn an associate degree or credential, while earning a high school diploma. P-TECH programs are designed to help students seamlessly transition from high school to postsecondary education and employment.

St. Philip’s College High School Programs are partnered with a number of P-TECH, ECHS and Dual Credit programs at high schools across the region to offer pathways into 14 Health and Biosciences career clusters. SPC Health and Biosciences programs meet the increasing demand for manpower in the expanding healthcare industry. Programs not only prepare students to become skilled technical members of a healthcare team, but also educate them to become productive and responsible citizens of the community.

Early College High Schools (ECHS)

Early College High Schools (ECHS) are open-enrollment high schools that allow students least likely to attend college an opportunity to receive both a high school diploma and either an associate degree or at least 60 credit hours toward a baccalaureate degree.
